gOd's Insurance Plan

Well, I had an interesting little listen on my drive home from school today. I say interesting because it was so very...I don't know if it was funny, ironic, or macabre.

So, I was listening to my local radio station and I hear this guy talking about insurance companies and how most of them are only there to take your money which is very true. He went on to comment on how he had gotten insurance that day and got in a wreck (not of his fault) just a few hours prior to purchasing it and the insurance company told him he wasn't insured because the policy wasn't to be started till the next day so he was at fault for not having any coverage though he showed them proof of his purchase of insurance.

Well, he then went on to talk about other people that have had similar problems with insurance companies and so on, and then mentioned a good insurance salesman (woman) and how she stood by her customers. THIS is the funny/ironic/macabre part as I guess I don't understand the logic or gOd's humor behind it. He said that "she stands by her customers and that gOd will make sure everything is taken care of."

Okay, it is SO funny to me because gOd will make sure that insurance is taken care of (which is overseen by man) yet it is too much to overlook a small child or a baby when they "STARVE TO DEATH" or are beaten to death or raped to the point of internal injuries that cause death?

If this insurance salesman (woman) is able to look after all her customers and make sure that they are taken care of why can't gOd watch over just the children? I mean, isn't he basically an insurance salesman since we pray to him and give him his payment? He's even paid in cash. What the hell? Is there no justice, no peace?

Freedom From Religion

This is my response to a diarists entry about the ACLU and why she would never join.

Religious liberty: Defends the individual rights of Americans of all religions to practice and/or display affirmations of their faith in public, but not on public property with government sponsorship or endorsement.(While I'm not a religious person, I do believe this country was founded on religious principles and this aspect, yes, I think they should be allowed to be displayed where they've always been displayed before, including courthouses, federal buildings, and the like.)

To this I have to say that 'yes,' our country was found on relgious freedom. There is no denying that and it's a very good foundation indeed. Which is 'why' I think that religousness needs to be kept out of state and federal buildings. People came here because they were being persecuted for their religous beliefs. With this said, I feel that it is self evident as to why we have 'sepeartion of church and state.'

The decriminalization of drugs such as heroin, cocaine and marijuana. (It's probably due to the fact that I've never DONE any kind of drugs, but I don't think they should be decriminalized. I think they're illegal for a reason and I think it should stay that way.)

What she fails to realize that these drugs are all legal (to an extent) already. First we will address Heroin. They put people that have cancer on synthetic heroin drugs to help with pain. Cocaine is used by doctors for sinus surgeries to anesthetize the eyes and sinus cavity. I found this out as a friend of mine would type up the surgeries (she was a medical transcriptionist). Marijuana has the most interesting story of them all though. Probably because I'm a fan of it. :-D

It starts out with our founding fathers. As most of us well know it was a very large cash crop for them as it was used for rope, papyrus, and clothing. George Washington was a grower himself. It was also used to make our first flag. Now, here comes the really interesing part about marijuana as I have learned due to my research as an activist for it. It was illegalized back in the 20's for several reasons. First it was jeopardizing the paper, cotton, and textile industries as you can get more fiber per volume of hemp than you can from wood pulp and from cotton. It is also more renewable than either as it can be grown year round (which you can't do with cotton) and has less economic impact than logging as it grows back faster and you can use the same plots year round.

With it putting these industries in jeopardy of bankruptcy the major companies got with a polotician (I can't remember his name off the top of my head) to do something about it. Know what he did? He started a campaign saying that it was leading to teen pregnacies and that black men were robbing/killing/raping white women because they were high on it. As you know, the campaign worked just as the bill for terroism worked to imprison people without lawyer, trial, or judge. They could be detained indifenately.
